Heart Health in Women

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. And, following a heart healthy lifestyle is easier with a little knowledge. In an era where many people are being told by their family physician’s that the have a “pre” disease, such as “pre-hypertension” and “pre-diabetes”, they are confused as to what to eat. Dietary modifications are the first line of treatment for heart disease and type 2 diabetes, even if you require medications.

Many people are suffering from creeping weight gain, which adds to the risk of heart disease. This month the American Heart Association announced new guidelines for preventing heart disease and stroke in women based on a woman’s individual cardiovascular health.  According to the new recommendations, prevention lifestyle measures were divided into classes based on the strength of the recommendation for each level of risk.
